I know exactly what you are going through. I have a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) running in my studio and I decided to finally upgrade it to Windows 10 because of the save your applications and files features as well as utilizing more of my wiz-bang hardware. I downloaded the installation media and ran the update. Everything finished, got to the login screen, logged in, and was greeted to a black screen with a cursor (mouse) which would appear when I moved the mouse. The only thing that showed up on the screen was the task manager (Alt + tab + delete) and nothing else. I couldn't blindly hit win + r and see the run command or anything.
I actually watched from the command prompted and saw the windows update service grab and install and new driver. This did nothing even after it was installed besides fix the resolution. This was of little impact because all I could see was the task manager. I restarted several times to no avail. I switched out video cards with nothing but the same result. I then tried the installation media advanced options (command line), no luck. Lastly, I attempted to boot into: safe, safe with networking, low resolution, and nothing worked. Everything was black screen on bootup.

I had to roll back my installation. When I did that the volume key that I use to install Win 7 was stripped and I got the countdown. Of course I don't have the OEM win key so now I have to upgrade. Clean install is out of the question because I have many many valuable apps and files on my DAW, Studio Computer. Lots of clients audio auditions and such. I am going to college so I have access to Dreamspark. I downloaded a full copy of Windows 10 plus the win 10 key and am running an install now. I will let you know if I get black screen again. Before the install I updated my Nvidia driver (8800 GT) to windows 10 driver. Also before I ran the install again, I tried like mad to use the media creation tool to run the upgrade again and got errors every time. It would never start saying something about windows couldn't start properly and to reboot and etc.

Roll back your installation. Use another computer to create a boot disk or usb and go into repair. Go to troubleshoot -> startup repair - > adv options -> and pick previous version. It will take a sec. If that freezes let it be frozen at 'restarting' for like an hour then hit restart. It will boot up into rolling your version back. Good luck man. I know this is frustrating.
